The Funnel Cake Lounge is a dessert shop in Martinez that serves creative and custom funnel cakes. With so many options for a funnel cake, I had to add this place to the top of my list. It’s still new to the area so I’m happy I’m able to share my first impression.

The Breakdown
The dessert shop is in a small area so there isn’t much space for parking. When you walk in, we were greeted and didn’t have to wait long in line to get our orders taken. It did take us a minute because I wanted to double-check all of my options. There are three different tiers of what comes on your funnel for different price points. You can also create your own. I decided to create my own because, with my dietary restrictions, I wasn’t wanting too much on my funnel cake and have to pay for it later… if you know what I mean. I added strawberries, pecans sprinkles, strawberry syrup and whipped cream to mine. It was delicious. I only ate half at first and managed to save the other half in the fridge for the next two days. Who would’ve thought a funnel cake could last more than a few minutes let alone almost two days.
My only disappointment was the service. The server was overwhelmed with phone calls, serving the orders and taking our order so he ended up messing up our orders slightly. The disappointment sank in because we had to repeat ourselves a few times and he repeated our orders back to us correctly, but somehow mine was missing the whipping cream. He said that this was a super busy day for them so I don’t expect that was the standard for service considering a bunch of positive reviews online.
How to get 5 stars
I hope the next time I visit the Funnel Cake Lounge, they will have more than one person at eh front to help out during those busy times. I also would like to see the shop have more decor and a vibe to match the awesome funnel cakes. We were a little turned off from the inside of the shop’s appearance. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t seem like a lounge. It was more of a place that you can pick up your food and go, but not somewhere you would want to actually lounge at. Other than that, I’ll definitely be back to enjoy a different custom funnel cake.
